About us

Moore Family Law specialises in Family Law.  We are based at 28 Rectory Lane, Skipton, BD23 1ER, at the far end of the big car park – so visiting is easy.

We offer appointments face to face in person at our office, online through Microsoft Teams or Zoom conference, or by telephone, whichever suits you.

Our normal office hours are Monday – Friday 9am-5pm but we will also help by providing out of hours appointments and home visits, if necessary.

Founded by Fiona Moore in 2013, Moore Family Law has been busy helping dales families to traverse the difficult terrain of separation and divorce for more than a decade.

We handle all the necessary legal steps to disentangling a relationship: divorce and all its ramifications.  We handle the fair distribution of assets and pensions, ensuring short and long term financial stability for our clients.

Most importantly we work to minimise the impact of separation on children. Their welfare is paramount and we assist with issues ranging from living and visiting arrangements through to financial maintenance for their upbringing.

Mediation is an alternative option we can offer to resolve disputes amicably. We are the only legal practice in the Dales area to offer this service. Please note, however, that we cannot go onto represent someone if we have acted as their mediator.

We offer meetings in person at our office in a traditional C19th century building on Rectory Lane (in the centre of Skipton backing onto the main car park) or online with you using webcam platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Fiona Moore

Principal

Principal Fiona Moore established Moore Family Law in 2013 to provide a service with a more personal approach to family law.

Fiona listens to your circumstances to fully understand your needs before providing legal advice which is then pragmatic and sensible. She aims to provide conclusive, appropriate advice and support to achieve the desired outcome and is diligent in protecting any children throughout the process.

As an accredited mediator, Fiona is a member of Resolution and works under the Resolution Code of Practice to deal with matters from a collaborative approach.

Georgina Nicolaou

Paralegal

Georgie is our bright young star.  She first worked for us In the summer 2024, returning in 2025 after studying at the BPP University Law School in Leeds. During her time there she volunteered with the Employment Tribunal Litigant in Person Support Scheme and found her niche engaging with clients face to face. Putting her new-found skills into play, she joined us as a paralegal to work in the sector, identifying family law as a more personable sector of the legal profession.

Georgie blends seamlessly with the team and shares, along with our workload, our ethos of being personable and supportive to clients as she continues her study towards becoming a fully qualified solicitor.

Sally Johnstone

Office Manager

Sally has been an integral part of the Moore Family Law team since 2014 when she joined us as a Legal Secretary. Soon getting to grips with the practice she quickly implemented new systems to improve efficiency and workflow, progressing naturally to become our Office Manager.

She explains “A well run office makes for a happy office and I contribute in any way I can to support the practice, the team and our clients.”

Michelle Gower

Legal Secretary

Michelle has been working in the legal profession since 1994, so when she joined us at Moore Family Law in 2016 she brought with her a wealth of experience. As a legal secretary Michelle works on our Reception and is the first point of contact for anyone contacting the practise in person or by phone. Her compassionate and understanding personality helps to put everyone at ease.

When we let her go home, Michelle devotes the rest of her time to family and friends, with a healthy amount of time spent walking her four-legged friend.

Janice Charlesworth

Legal Secretary

Janice joined us in 2022 as a part-time Legal Secretary to share the load with Michelle.  Having spent many years in secretarial work roles including legal departments and latterly at another law firm as a Legal Secretary she found her way to us. She has taken to family law and is enjoying her role saying “I have finally found my calling here at Moore Family Law, building relationships with clients, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported in what is without doubt a very difficult time for them.”

Outside work she enjoys long walks and is very partial to visiting National Trust properties, reading and watching movies.

Mabel

The Real Boss

Mabel has been part of the team since 2022 and brightens up the office with her playful attitude and attention to emotional harmony.  She is partial to eating tissues and bouncing on her back legs like Tigger but guaranteed to provide cuddles and kisses on tap, if encouraged.

Some may think we have a creche facility here but alas no; it is Mabel’s baby gate, Mabel’s crate and Mabel’s toys you might spot.
